UNDIP Welcomes 16,267 New Students, Rector Encourages Them to Become a Resilient and Impactful “COMPLETE” Generation

UNDIP, Semarang (5/8) – The Open Session of the Academic Senate, featuring the New Student Admission Ceremony (PMB) of Universitas Diponegoro for the 2026/2027 Academic Year, was held over three days, from Wednesday to Friday, August 5–7, 2026, at the Muladi Dome, UNDIP Tembalang Campus.

In his remarks, UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., encouraged students to become part of the COMPLETE generation—Communicator, Professional, Leader, Entrepreneur, Thinker, and Educator—who are academically capable, resilient, creative, caring, dignified, and beneficial to society.

“People describe today’s generation as the strawberry generation, considered fragile. But that should not be the case with the TEMCY generation, which is cognitively intelligent, resilient, open-minded, extroverted, open to new ideas, highly tolerant of stress, and adheres to religious values as well as campus and government regulations,” he said.

Prof. Suharnomo added, “To achieve success, you must focus on priorities, your own competence, soft skills, leadership, initiative, and innovation, while also caring about others through meaningful activities that deliver tangible benefits.”

“UNDIP’s reputation for developing a sustainable campus has earned prestigious recognition in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2025, where UNDIP ranked second nationally among Indonesia’s most sustainable universities and 23rd globally,” he added.

“UNDIP’s commitment to building an increasingly modern, inclusive, and collaborative higher education ecosystem is reflected in the development of the Pleburan Twin Tower, the Tembalang Tower, Taman Rumah Kita, Diponegoro Edupark, the UNDIP Stadium Running Track, and many other outstanding facilities. UNDIP Zero Waste represents one of the best waste management initiatives in Indonesia. In addition, UNDIP has developed 13 water treatment and seawater desalination machines along the northern coast of Java, from Brebes, Pekalongan, Pemalang, Semarang, Demak, and Pati to Rembang regencies. UNDIP has also sent water purification machines to West Sumatra and collaborated with the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Affairs (KEMENIMIPAS) on converting seawater into potable water at the Nusakambangan Prison in Cilacap,” Prof. Suharnomo explained.

Prof. Suharnomo also highlighted several UNDIP’s achievements, including POMNAS; first place nationally in the Student Achievement Selection (Pilmapres) for both undergraduate and diploma categories; second place in the men’s 20-Juz Hifdzil Quran category at MTQM; second place in the Quranic Scientific Writing competition; SATRIA DATA; first place in the Big Data Challenge; and UNDIP being named overall champion of the 2026 Central Java Peksimida.

Meanwhile, in her opening remarks, the Chair of the UNDIP Academic Senate, Prof. Ir. Tri Winarni Agustini, M.Sc., Ph.D., welcomed the new students to the university. “Welcome to the UNDIP family, one of the best universities in Central Java and one of the leading universities in our country,” she said.

UNDIP is currently one of the Indonesian state universities whose graduates secure employment the fastest. We hope and pray that all our new students will complete their studies on time with outstanding achievements, making their alma mater and families proud,” Prof. Tri Winarni said.
